Learning another language can be an exciting and rewarding experience. For the times that it is challenging (especially when memorizing irregular verbs in Spanish 2), it can be helpful to remember some of the reasons we study another language:
Did you know that. . .
- Spanish is the second most spoken language in The United States with over 35 million speakers. As students enter the workforce, it's important to be able to communicate with others and have the cultural literacy and understanding needed to make it in today's economy.
- Learning another language can make you smarter. Learning a language, such as Spanish, scientists claim, alters your brain in subtle ways, making you more likely to score higher scores on standardized tests. In essence, you're smarter than you were before.
- Taking Spanish prepares you for college. Learning two years of another language, such as Spanish, fulfills college entrance requires for the University of Montana system and for many out-of-state colleges it is required.
- Spanish is fun. We have a great time as we challenge ourselves to say words that we have never spoken before. Some of the sounds we say, such as, "hablaba," which means, "I used to speak," sound silly and are fun to say. Each day in this class we can say we learned something new. Plus, if you want an extra-curricular activity, Spanish Club meets regularly and is a way of making new friends while exploring the language and its culture.
